This project, financed by the Earth Observation Applications Development Programme (EOADP) of the Canadian Space Agency and the Canada-Quebec Agreement on the Development of the Use of RADARSAT Data allowed our team to experiment with Sigma0 to detect new isolated buildings in natural surroundings and known recreational areas (including illegal cottages) and to detect changes within urban and natural areas in order to facilitate the updating of 1/20 000 scale topographic maps.
More specifically, the objectives are:
1) To validate the capacity of images from RADARSAT and other satellites (SPOT, IRS, Landsat, Quickbird etc.) for automatic change detection of various themes (road network, wetlands, built-up areas, woodlands) included in 1/20 000 scale topographic maps);
2) To evaluate the geometrical precision obtained with various types of images according to the cartographic output standards of the topographic mapping board of the MRNFP; and
3) To adapt Sigma0 accordingly by integrating the use of topographic maps and optical images.
